GENERAL DISCUSSION

PROCESS: Introduction to Consensus

  • The main facilitator explained how consensus decision-making process generally works at General Assemblies.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • The ad hoc tech committee is working on implementing free social networking software called Diaspora. This would allow us to engage in social networking without relying on Facebook. For more information, contact Wayne.

PROPOSALS

PROPOSAL: ¬†Following today’s General Assembly, break into committees.

  • RESPONSE: Consensus

PROPOSAL: Create an Occupy Carbondale library.

  • Further discussion revealed that this can be accomplished by volunteers and does not require a formal proposal.
  • RESPONSE: Withdrawn

PROPOSAL: March up the Strip, around Town Square, and back at some point today.

  • RESPONSE: Three blocks
  • The facilitator called for three in favor and three opposed to speak. Blockers expressed concern that there wouldn’t be enough time to notify people not present and that it was more important to focus on greeting new people at the occupation site.
  • RESPONSE: Withdrawn

PROPOSAL: March tomorrow (Monday, October 17) at 12:30 p.m. on campus.

  • RESPONSE: Consensus

PROPOSAL: March or hold a rally on Thursday to focus on outreach to unions on and off campus.

  • Further discussion lead to the suggestion that it may be better for several reasons to find events that unions are already organizing and propose a march or rally in solidarity.
  • RESPONSE: Withdrawn

PROPOSAL: It is our policy at the occupation site that in the event of an eviction by police, those present will make every effort to move the gear of anyone who is not actively resisting eviction across to Gaia House.
